چکیده

Particle Size Distribution (PSD) is one of the prime guiding factors granular media response. Degradation via weathering a process, which brings about gradual shift in PSD. In nature, chemically sensitive material like calcite undergoes chemo-mechanical degradation bringing variations their behaviour. present study, an experimental investigation carried out to get insight into mechanical response during coupled process. The experiments were at two different rates dissolutions custom made 1D compression mould. From experiments, it clear that higher rate dissolution reduces lateral earth pressure more than lower rate. Discrete Element Method (DEM) analyses micromechanical process behind observed from experiments. results showed reduction stress as soon starts. DEM analysis confirms competing mechanism between grain size and rearrangement element for

Frictional mechanics of wet granular material.

The mechanical response of a wet granular layer to imposed shear is studied experimentally at low applied normal stress. The granular material is immersed in water and the shear is applied by sliding a plate resting on the upper surface of the layer. We monitor simultaneously the horizontal and the vertical displacements of the plate to submicron accuracy with millisecond time resolution. The r...

YADE-OPEN DEM: an open–source software using a discrete element method to simulate granular material

Purpose YADE–OPEN DEM is an open source software based on the Discrete Element Method which uses object oriented programming techniques. The paper describes the software architecture. Design/methodology/approach The DEM chosen uses position, orientation, velocity and angular velocity as independent variables of simulated particles which are subject to explicit leapfrog time–integration scheme (...

A Study of the Wave Propagation Velocity in Granular Soils Using Discrete Element Method (DEM)

In the present paper, discrete element method (DEM) is used to study wave propagation phenomenon in granular soils. The effect of factors such as coefficient of friction, frequency, normal stiffness and soil gradation on the wave velocity is studied. Using the wall motion based on the sinusoidal function is the method of loading used in this simulation, through which the pressure wave is transf...

Exploring the micro - mechanics of triaxial instability in granular materials

14 The instability of granular materials due to water infiltration under fully drained conditions has been 15 previously considered in experimental studies. While laboratory experiments can provide macro-scale 16 insight into drained instability, the micro-mechanics under such conditions are yet to be explored. 17 This study has employed the Discrete Element Method (DEM) to simulate constant sh...

Investigating mechanism of inclined CPT in granular ground using DEM

This paper presents an investigation on mechanism of the inclined 1 cone penetration test (CPT) using the numerical discrete element method (DEM). 2 A series of penetration tests with the penetrometer inclined at different angles 3 (i.e., 0°,15°, 30°, 45° and 60°) were numerically performed under µ=0.0 and 4 µ=0.5, where µ is the frictional coefficient between the penetrometer and the soil. 5 T...
